The goal: More freshness, less waste, and a better experience for you and your dog.
Why we changed the packaging
Over the last two years, we have truly tried everything to optimize our paper packaging in order to keep it. Three-ply, four-ply – we tested, tinkered, and hoped. But the truth is: the material simply wasn't robust enough. The bags tore, let in moisture and air, and were repeatedly targeted by moth infestations. This meant that feed had to be disposed of – and that is precisely not sustainable. A paper package with a plastic inner coating would not have been an honest solution – it would only look sustainable, while not actually being so. That is why we have now switched to recyclable mono-material packaging – currently the most sustainable alternative available alongside paper when it comes to durability, freshness, and actual recyclability.
What the new material does better
Monomaterial means: a single type of plastic – no material mix, no sorting problems, true recycling. The new material is stable, hygienic, and protects the food better – without compromises.
Your benefits at a glance:
✔️ Longer shelf life & more freshness
✔️ No more grease stains or splitting bags
✔️ Easily recyclable via the yellow recycling bag
✔️ Resealable thanks to a zipper or Aplix fastener (depending on size). This keeps the food clean & fresh.

A word from Tessa

"We really wanted to keep using paper—we truly did. But after countless tests, it was clear: it just wasn't stable enough. If food has to be disposed of due to tears or moisture, that is anything but sustainable.
That is why switching to monomaterial was the more honest solution.
We have consciously not raised our prices over the last two years because we believe dog food is not a luxury product.
However, purchasing this material is significantly more expensive. With the increased material and production costs, an adjustment could no longer be avoided—but it is not for profit; it is necessary to continue producing responsibly.”

Our way forward
Green Crunch remains what it has always been: the same recipe. The same quality. The same philosophy. Only now in packaging that ensures this for the long term. Our other varieties—Farmers Crunch and Simply Crunch—will also follow step by step so that all VEGDOG products offer the same quality and shelf life. We did not take this step lightly. But we believe that honesty and responsibility are always the most sustainable solutions.
FAQ
Why did you switch from paper to plastic?
Our goal for the material transition: Less packaging damage = less scrap and less waste. The new monomaterial is recyclable, stable, and protects the feed better. Less scrap means less waste and less consumption of raw materials.
Does the new packaging contain PFAS?
Our plastics are manufactured using PFAS-containing processing aids. Minimal, controlled traces of PFAS may be present in the final product, which are significantly below legal limits. These traces are considered safe and harmless.
Can I recycle the packaging?
Yes! The new packaging is made of a monomaterial that can be disposed of and recycled via the yellow bag (recycling bin).
What does "controlled minimal PFAS content" mean in concrete terms?
This means: During production, traces of fluorinated substances occur, which are checked on a regular basis. The packaging meets all current EU requirements for materials in contact with food.
Is the packaging safe for my dog?
Yes. The material is evaluated according to the same standards as packaging that is permitted to come into contact with food. It is tested, safe, and harmless – both for you and for your dog.
Which sizes are available now?
