VEGDOG DIY: PAW BALM
We are in the coldest time of the year, which inevitably brings ice and road salt to the paths. As a result, our dogs' paws are subjected to more stress than ever. Road salt in particular is treacherous, as it draws moisture from the pads and causes them to crack. This increases the risk of injury.

A natural balm that protects the skin from drying out is a great help here. We have made an effective paw balm for our dogs ourselves using simple ingredients and would like to share the recipe with you here.
Calendula and chamomile flowers can have anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effects. Moisturizing, antibacterial coconut oil rounds off the recipe perfectly.
YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING FOR THE PAW BALM:
- 200 ml coconut oil
- 1 tbsp dried calendula petals (available at a health food store or pharmacy)
- 1 tbsp chamomile flowers (available at a health food store)
PREPARATION IS QUITE SIMPLE:
Heat the coconut oil in a water bath until it is liquid. Add the flowers and mix everything well. Pour the mixture into a small resealable jar and then let the coconut oil set again. This usually takes a few hours.
HOW TO USE IT:
Regularly massage a small amount of the balm into your dog's paws, e.g., before or after a walk. However, please do not use it if the paws have any wounds, as the balm should be used as a preventative measure.
Have fun making it and have a wonderful time!
